Why I'm building this
I've spent eight years travelling. My grandparents mostly heard about it later.
They're not big on technology — no group chat, no Instagram, no video calls that don't end with someone filming the ceiling. I love them to bits, and staying properly in touch has always been harder than it should be. They've missed a lot of my life in real time, and honestly, I've missed sharing it with them.
The Letterbox Times started as my fix for that: a simple way to show them where I am in the world and what I'm up to, in the one format they genuinely love — on paper, in their letterbox. Now I'm inviting other families to share their news the same way, wherever in the world life has scattered everyone.

How much does it cost?
At launch, $18.99/month for a monthly gazette, postage included. The whole family can chip in — split six ways, that's less than a coffee each per month. Waitlist members will get first access and an early-bird offer.
Do the grandparents need a phone, app or email?
No. Nothing. That's the entire point. The gazette arrives in their physical letterbox like a magazine. If they can open an envelope, they're fully set up.
Who puts the newspaper together each month?
We do. The family just adds photos and short updates in the app each month — we handle the layout, headlines and captions, and you see a preview before it prints. Nobody in the family needs design skills or extra homework.
How is this different from just printing photos myself?
You could — and you haven't, for the same reason none of us have: life. The Letterbox Times makes it automatic. The family shares like they already do, and a finished, beautifully laid-out paper turns up every single month without anyone being the designated organiser.
Can family overseas or interstate contribute?
Absolutely — that's who this is built for. Cousins in London, siblings in Perth, grandkids in Bali: everyone posts into the same family chat, and it all lands in the one gazette.
What if the family has a quiet month?
The app gives everyone a friendly nudge before the print deadline, and its prompts ("what did the kids get up to this month?") make it easy. A gazette needs surprisingly little — a dozen photos and a few lines fills it beautifully.
How many photos and messages fit in each issue?
Around 20–30 photos plus messages across a full-colour gazette of roughly 24–28 pages, depending on what the family shares that month.
Do I have to pay anything to join the waitlist?
No. The waitlist is completely free and there's no card required — just your email. When we launch, waitlist members get first access and an early-bird offer before anyone else.
When are you launching?

What does the printed gazette actually look like?
A full-colour, magazine-quality paper with your family's own masthead, filled with your family's photos and messages laid out like real front-page news. Printed on quality stock in Australia, built to be kept, not chucked.
Can we send it to more than one grandparent?
Yes — you can add extra recipients (one grandparent in Newcastle, another in Perth) for a few dollars per extra copy. Same gazette, multiple letterboxes.
What about grandparents in aged care?
Gazettes post to any address, including care homes — residents love having something of their own to show around. If you run a care community and want this for your residents' families, choose that option in the form above; we're planning a facility program.
Is our family's content private?
Completely. Your family chat is private, your photos are only ever seen by your family and the printing process, and nothing is posted publicly or used for anything else. Ever.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes — it's month to month, no lock-in contracts, cancel in one click. (Fair warning: the hardest part of cancelling is telling the grandparents the paper's stopping.)
